the diet experiment explained

No! (by bookgrl)

I'm back to explain last Friday's post – before and after: the diet experiment. A few weeks ago, I decided to look into doing some sort of detox-diet-thing, nothing hard core or crazy, and no, I'm not feeling terrible or anything, I just wasn't feeling great. So I did a tiny bit of research and decided for a week to cut out meat, wheat, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, and sugar. (Um…I think that's it…) To which everyone around me responded – "What's left?!?" Quite a bit, actually! It wasn't as hard as I'd imagined it would be, it just made me think about my food and plan my meals in a way I wasn't accustomed to. (I should mention that cutting out alcohol and caffeine and meat was incredibly easy. I don't often drink alcohol or much coffee and I only occasionally eat meat. Dairy though…oh, cheese…that was tough!)

So what did I eat? Loads of vegetables, tons of fruit, some tofu, lots of rice, beans, green tea, nuts…really quite a bit! And I felt great! Seriously. I had my doubts that it would make much of a difference, but it did. And, unfortunately, the thing that made the most difference was removing wheat from my diet. I have so much more energy now, it's amazing. I've been getting about an hour or more less sleep per night and feeling less tired. That wasn't what I was expecting, but I'll take it! Unfortunately…wheat! I bake! I live for good bread! Cupcakes! Brioche! Crackers! Tortillas! This is going to take some consideration…
