Baking, crafting, mama-ing and taking photos of it all. When I remember.

farewell, 2013

I can’t say I’ll be terribly sad to see you go…

down the path

We had a year full of ups and downs. Broker than we’ve ever been (aren’t things supposed to get better?), we managed to support a family of 4 on under $20,000. (With lots of help from the government, trust me.) E had an emergency room visit because of a stomach bug that had her fever up over 105. It turned out not to be appendicitis, as they’d suspected, and she was home late that night, thank heavens. We had one comically rough weekend where E had a (different) stomach bug, H had hand, foot, mouth and the stomach bug and something else I can’t even remember now. All you can do is laugh about it now…

There were bright spots in our year though! It wasn’t all bad. E turned three in April.

H turned one in July.

We celebrated with friends and family. We moved to a better place in October, which certainly complicated things but it’s good in the end. I had a fun trip to Rhinebeck with friends in October. I did not complete my 8 in 2013 goal, unfortunately, and I’m going to blame it on the move. (That isn’t strictly accurate – I doubt I would have finished anyway, but now I don’t have a sewing area anymore which makes it even harder!) We went to Connecticut in April to visit my sister and attend a conference at Yale – convenient! M went to Europe for 11 days in May, leaving me home with both kiddos and we had a great time. My parents had a timeshare at a beach resort type place and the kids and I got to stay there for a weekend while M was off playing European clubs and buying me chocolate. One accomplishment I’m particularly proud of this year is that I really started paying attention to my health – I’ve been working out and watching what I eat and I ran two 5ks last year! I’m already signed up for one for next year. Because of this, I’m about 35 lbs lighter than I was this time last year, and in the best shape of my life.

I’m ending the year on a mixed note – I’ve had the flu for the past few days but on the bright side, some kind soul sent us a $100 Visa gift card anonymously in the mail! I have no idea who it was, but if it was you…thank you. We appreciate it more than you know.

I have high hopes for next year. One thing I’m excited about is a group blog project I’m doing with some friends. We’ll each be posting a photo a day. I’m looking forward to taking more photos this year! Be well, friends. Happy 2014.
